The standard method for measuring coffee scoops is with tablespoons and for volume is cups of water. This creates the infamous Coffee to Water Ratio. This means that you pour water into a measuring container until it reaches the desired level. For example, if you need 12 cups of coffee, then you would fill your measuring cup with 12 cups of water. A little known fact, the lines on your coffee pot are Not measured in cups! So be careful to use a real measuring cup and of course use a real measuring tablespoon. But the questions still remain, for a classic drip brew, how much coffee for 12 cups? How much coffee for 10 cups? How much coffee for 8 cups?
In general, the rule of thumb is two tablespoons of ground coffee per cup of water. That is the Coffee to Water Ratio! So how much coffee for 8 cups? You should use 16 tablespoons of coffee. In general, different brewing methods and desired strengths may call for different amounts. But whenever in doubt, two tablespoons of coffee per cup of water is the way to go!
